If you are sourcing towels or textile products from a manufacturer, you will encounter two terms repeatedly: OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) and Private Label. While they are related, they are different approaches and the right choice depends on your business model, brand strategy and order volumes.
What is OEM Manufacturing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturing. In textiles, this means the buyer provides detailed specifications — GSM, composition, construction, size, colour, finish — and the manufacturer produces the product exactly to those specifications. The buyer owns the design and the manufacturer produces it.
OEM is ideal for brands that have developed their own product specifications and want consistent quality across multiple suppliers. It requires more involvement from the buyer in the product development stage.
What is Private Label?
Private label means the manufacturer produces a product from their existing range and the buyer applies their own branding — label, packaging and sometimes minor customisations like colour. The product design is owned by the manufacturer; the brand is provided by the buyer.
Private label is faster to market, requires less development work and is ideal for retailers or distributors who want branded products without investing in full product development.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose OEM if: you have specific product requirements, want full control over specifications, or are building a differentiated product range. Choose private label if: you want to launch quickly, have moderate budgets, or want to test a market before committing to custom development.
SafatTex offers both OEM manufacturing and private label solutions. Our team can guide you through both options based on your target market, budget and timeline.
